What We're Reading
Over the summer, I have been expanding my collection of books related to massage and the mind-body connection. A couple of my recent favorites include: Engaging Resilience, Heal the Physical Impact of Emotional Trauma: A Guidebook for Bodywork Practitioners by Lissa Wheeler, MA and The Psychology of the Body by Elliot Greene and Barbara Goodrich-Dunn.
I added The Psychology of the Body to my library awhile back, and I find myself revisiting it often. It is an in-depth and helpful resource about our body's patterns that are based on our emotional experiences. I also appreciate the way it delivers clear and appropriate information on interventions for bodyworkers.
In Engaging Resilience, Wheeler breaks down the experience of trauma through a bodywork lens. She covers information on the impact of trauma and stress on our bodies and elaborates on specific types of traumatic events. One section of the book focuses on application for bodywork when it comes to helping a client regulate and engage their sense of resilience.
Educational books are powerful and enriching resources for me. I love the idea of picking up a book at any given time and gaining more insight and perspective for my work.
